A Weekend with Sheriff’s Deputies

Have you ever wondered what patrol deputies with the Sheriff’s Office do during their shift? We want to share what a weekend on patrol is like. Obviously there are some details that we aren’t able to share about each call for service; however, we want to involve the community by providing a snapshot. Below are just a few of the 750 calls for service handled by patrol deputies over the weekend.

Weekend Patrol Operations for June 3-5, 2016:

• Patrol deputies handled over 750 calls for service over the course of 3 days. They made 16 arrests for various crimes such as, possession with the intent to distribute CDS, driving under the influence, second degree assault and other traffic related charges.
• Deputies responded to a residence for a heroin overdose. The family was actively involved in the juvenile’s sobriety; however, she did not survive.
• Deputies responded to Buckeystown Pike in the area of I270 for a female who was climbing on and walking in front of vehicles. The female claimed that she wanted to die and used a lot of heroin. Deputies were able to take her into custody and she was transported by ambulance to the hospital.
• Deputies responded to Gapland Road to investigate several mailboxes that were destroyed.
• Deputies responded to a residence for a hysterical suicidal subject with a history of suicidal behavior. She was secured and safely transported to the hospital.
• Deputies responded to the area of Edgewood Church Road for several thefts from vehicles. Evidence was collected from the scene and placed on property at the Sheriff’s Office.
• Deputies responded to a residence for a suicidal person that was recently released from a treatment center and was depressed. Deputies contacted the person and she was taken to the hospital two separate times over the weekend for treatment.
• Deputies attempted to stop a vehicle in the area of Hope Commons Circle in Urbana when the operator accelerated rapidly, attempting to elude them. Two of the occupants fled on foot from the vehicle; however, they were apprehended by deputies. Contraband was seized and placed on property at the Sheriff’s Office.
• Deputies responded to a residence for a domestic assault with injuries. The suspect was arrested and transported to the detention center for processing.
• Deputies attempted to make a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Carriage Hill Drive when one of the occupants jumped out of the vehicle with blood on his face, shirt, and hands. The occupant sustained injuries from the assault at his residence and left in the vehicle with the assailant. The driver was taken to the hospital for treatment.
• Deputies assisted another agency with a heroin overdose at the Sheetz in Walkersville. Deputies administered Narcan to the subject before they were transported by ambulance to the hospital.
• Deputies responded to Discovery in Walkersville where two juveniles were fighting. One of the juveniles pulled a knife out and swung it at the other during the altercation.
• Deputies were also on a Safe Streets initiative in the county. Deputies were on a traffic stop when one of them observed a female passenger pull heroin from her bra and attempt to place it in her mouth to conceal it.
